OUR HISTORY

On May 30, 2000 a body of sixty-two believers met at the Harrison’s Funeral Home.  Owing to the feeling of unity and fellowship, the group began to informally call themselves “The Fellowship”. The group met regularly for worship and by June 25, 2000, The Fellowship was worshipping in the auditorium of Melrose High School.  It was there that the church was officially organized on Sunday, July 9, 2000 as Olivet Fellowship Baptist Church.  Rev. Kenneth T. Whalum, Sr. was elected as Pastor.  The terms of his acceptance were on a voluntary basis and only until the church matured both physically and financially.

OUR HISTORY

The church moved from Melrose Auditorium and found a temporary home in the old sanctuary of Mt. Vernon Westwood.  Olivet Fellowship began to look for a permanent place to worship and through God’s grace, a place of worship was discovered at 4450 Knight Arnold Road. Through much prayer and guidance, an offer was made and the loan secured. The building was purchased for $1.7M and through $400,000 in pledges from guarantors the loan package was secured. The $1.3M loan closed on September 29, 2000 and Olivet Fellowship Baptist Church moved into its current home location.

We worshipped in the gymnasium until the newly remodeled sanctuary was completed in January 2001. We had pastoral guidance from Pastor Whalum and Associate Ministers until October 2002 when Dr. Fred Lofton was elected to serve as Interim Pastor. On December 14, 2003, Olivet Fellowship elected Rev. Dr. Eugene L. Gibson, Jr. to serve as our Sr. Pastor.  He held the position until November 1, 2020.
